Robbed

I'm telling you what, this summer has been insane.  In a matter of three weeks, I/we:
  • "delivered a baby"
  • almost died by driving off the side of a mountain
  • almost missed our airplane ride home from Colorado
  • managed to get robbed at the swimming pool
And if you think that's it, there's even more I haven't had a chance to share!  Life has not been dull!

But back to the whole "getting robbed" story.  Just when I think that surely not one more crazy thing can happen to me this summer, I get to spend my afternoon sitting in a cop car because my wallet was stolen from my bag at Sholem pool.  As soon as I realized it, Sholem workers helped me search the premises and called the cops.  I then spent a good amount of time filing a police report and canceling my credit and debit cards. Sandy Chew had graciously taken all of our kids to Custard Cup while I tried to figure things out. I asked the officer if there was any hope of recovering my wallet, aside from the $50 cash which I knew was long gone (and I NEVER carry cash; it was leftover from vacation!). He was not very hopeful. He said that they had probably taken what they wanted and dumped it in a trash can or in someone's yard. While I was waiting for Sandy to come pick me up, I decided to go out and search the parking lot. I walked out to the furthest trash can and peeked down inside, and I thought I could see a corner of it! I thought maybe I was delirious. The trash cans there are 10 ft. deep into the ground and have lids screwed on top, so I went to get a worker. She came out and looked and said she could see it too! We had to call several workers and the police officer back to try and recover it. No one could get the top off, but all of us together were able to pull the bag up to the top, and I stuck my arm shoulder deep in trash, and I got it. My cell phone and cash were gone, but that was the least of my worries. I had a set of keys to both of our cars, our house keys, my church keys, my drivers license, my credit/debit cards, my health insurance cards, etc.  All of that is worth nothing to anyone else but a lot to me! I am very thankful to the kind men who helped me recover it. I am very disappointed that a person would not only steal, but that they would dump my things in a trash can to never be found. Couldn't they have just dumped it in the grass or somewhere where my keys at least could be recovered? I had no way to drive my car home! And I had no way to fill up my gas tank (which was on E). If someone needed $50, I would have given it to them! I was thankful and frustrated at the same time. I learned a hard lesson.  I am too naive and trusting sometimes. They said this happens "all the time;" it's "unreal." I will be much more careful in the future!

See my wallet in the bottom of the trash can?

Aleah 15 Months

Aleah is quite an active girl these days.  She runs all over the place.  She knows what she wants and when she wants it but she can't always communicate it.  She gets into lots of messes like the day she managed to open a bottle of nail polish and get it all over herself and her clothes and Jacob's chair.  See her hand:
She also eats every writing utensil in existence (crayons, markers, pencil erasers, eyeliner, etc.).
She loves to put on sunglasses and shoes.  She's a little obsessed with both.
 She loves swinging!

She keeps me on my toes!

Some days I still can't believe how blue her eyes are!

After about 7 years of parenting, I have determined that this might be the most exhausting age, at least when it comes to going places.  She doesn't like to sit still.  She's too young to expect her to do what I say.  She can't communicate what she wants.  Certain things like flying on airplanes, going to the movies, going to doctor/dentist appointments with her in tow, etc. all take a lot of energy on my part!  But I wouldn't trade it for the world.  I love this girl!

Braves T-ball 2015

We had a great season of T-ball this year!  Hannah and Jacob were able to be on the same team, as well as their cousin Landon and his cousin Casen!  Josh and Jordan got to coach together.  It was a lot of fun!
First Practice:

Ice cream after the game on Landon's b-day

Lots of family came to watch all season:

So much fun!

Aspen

We got to go on vacation to Aspen, CO with Josh's mom's side of the family for the 4th of July.  All of Josh's siblings were able to make it, which is no small feat!  Getting our family to and from Aspen ending up being no small feat either, as we decided to fly into Denver and make the drive each way.  The drive almost ended in a nightmare both times, but here we are, living to tell about it!
On the first day, we took a gondola ride up Aspen Mountain.  It was very beautiful!

At the top of the mountain, we took a "small" hike:

There was a really neat restaurant at the top of the mountain with some recreational activities like hula hooping!

After the mountain, the kids really wanted to go to the pool:
Our family had our own condo, which worked out really great.  The kids had their own room:
We had our own room:
And we had a kitchen/living room/dining room:

That night we went downtown for ice cream and to play at the park.
There were always musicians on this street corner.

On day two, the cousins had arrived and we headed to Maroon Bells:
I have seen this destination on a "top 10 most beautiful places in the US,"
and after visiting there, I have to agree.  It didn't seem real!

We did another "small" hike at Maroon Bells.  The kids were troopers!

Aleah napped!

When we got back to Aspen, we took the gondola back up the mountain and spotted a bear!
We enjoyed the restaurant again with amazing views:

We hit the ice cream shop and park again:

The kids decided to sleep upstairs so Aleah could have her own room:

On day three, we went to Snowmass for a dinosaur dig.
It didn't end up being exactly what we thought, but we made the most of it!

We went back to Aspen and rented bikes and took a BEAUTIFUL bike ride:

Our last full day was the 4th of July:
There was a carnival for the kids:

and a great parade:

And then back up Aspen Mountain for some more play fun:

And of course fireworks:

It was a great trip and unlike anything we have ever experienced.
If Bob and Jody end up retiring there as planned, I'm sure this is just the first of many trips!
