I was in charge of our church's playgroup for the first time this summer. I called it "Fieldtrip Fridays." I spent a lot of time planning and advertising. We had some good days, but overall, I have to admit a lot of things didn't quite go as planned. We had to cancel for rain a few times. We actually had to cancel for cold one day in late June; we were supposed to go to the pool and it was about 58 that day! Then, on our rescheduled day, it was extremely hot. We had one junior high girl pass out at the pool, and she was sent to the hospital! We had a few bowling days scheduled, but we skipped those since my kids can't bowl. Then, on our final day, I had arranged a special tour at our children's museum in Champaign (which I have never been to!). My mom was joining us, so I picked her up from work, hit the interstate, got halfway there, and Hannah threw up in her carseat. Yuck! So, we turned around and went home. I was really disappointed.
On a bright note, Josh took a day off work and went to the pool with us. It was really nice to have his help. I'm not sure I could have done such a large pool on my own. I know I couldn't have stayed as long as I did! This pool does not allow any flotation devices, so you really have to watch your kids closely!
Hannah was brave on the kiddie slide! She did the BIG slide with daddy!
Jacob's first time in a swing!
I'm not sure what we'll do for playgroup next year. On average, I think we had 4-5 families, so I wonder if it's still worth doing. Maybe I'll cut back on the number of events. I'm not sure. Maybe I'm just feeling discouraged and I'll change my mind after some time. We shall see!
